Crue Fest2

Motley Crue are at it again, on the road for their summer tour with supporting acts: GodSmack, Theory Of A Deadman, drowning pool, and Charm City Devils.

I’m getting ready to head out the door to the show, and still with the hopes of at least one interview with one of the bands.

Well, it didn’t happen, I got no interviews (sure it’s poor English) … but, Motley Crue did put a little doctor feel good into the summer heat by opening their set with the entire Doctor Feelgood album.  I’ll be doing the writing and posting photos in the morning.

When I set out to hit the venue, the mid-day sun was sweltering; the ambient (outdoor) temperature in my car’s thermostat read 107!  It did cool off, and as I said, it was the ambient temp and most likely it was in the low/mid 90’s where I was at on the freeway.

Any, when I arrived at the White River people were just dragging their bodies in and trying to escape the hot sun.  I didn’t shoot anything at the second stage but from what I was told, there was only five people standing in the sun to listen to one of the secondary supporting bands on today’s concert line-up.

Once the concert jumped to the main stage with acts like Theory Of A Deadman www.roadrunnerrecords.com (who I might add, have a lot of bands in their roster that are on tour right now) things really started to pick-up.  I’ve seen TOADM three times, and I kid-you-not, every time I see these guys they get better and better, and more exciting to watch every time.

This was my first time seeing drowning pool and I really got into them as did my friend John from “Devil’s Food,” a top Alice Cooper tribute band based out of the NW.  He along with everyone on the concert floor were banging their heads to the tight rhythm section of the band.

July 27-2009-Crue.Fest2-0183When Godsmack came on, I wasn’t expecting much to be honest since I’ve seen them before I was a little disappointed by them.  However, there was no letting me down at this show.  They came out of nowhere to me, and put on a stellar performance.  I swear that everyone there knew the words to every song of theirs and sang (shouted) along with Sully Erna, the vocalist.

A highlight of their performance came when Erna and drummer Shannon Larkin were on stage playing separate drum kits (Although Erna was really on what might be considered percussion) while bassist Robbie Merrill and Tony Rombola on guitar stayed hidden and added some filler sounds while the other two took over the show.

From the moment Motley Crue took to the stage, they had everyone on their feet and in their care.  I had heard some talks about the stage setup and though it was simple it fit very well.  (The second half of their set will blow your mind!)

Mimicking a mental hospital ward, the band played in what resembled a padded room with bright flashing lights and Neil draped in a white doctors garb covered the entire Dr. Feelgood album from start to finish.
