Where is Lieutenant Commandar Tovuk of Star Trek Voyager today?

A few months back while was on assignment in So Cal, I decided to return home to Seattle via Burbank instead of LAX.   Smaller airport, less security, and fewer people, meant more time on the ground doing what love to do, and that’s eat and take photographs.

Anyhow, I arrived at the airport and went through the check-in process only to end up waiting in a room full of people.  Saw the rudest 20-something female snarl at a couple of older ladies (late 70’s early 80’s ish) from Ireland I believe, on their way to Vancouver via Seattle.  I also noticed this one guy setting alone and minding his own business, and doing what he could to avoid all the noise and commotion to maintain some sort of calm.

He looked vaguely familiar, but I couldn’t place where or why.  I boarded my flight and took my seat in first-class next to the window.  As luck would have it, that quiet guy sat next to me and didn’t say a word.  He was on the phone; I think.

Mid-way into our flight to Seattle, a common ground was found, tea!  Yes, tea!  Caffeinated, decaffeinated,  green, black, and chai, everything.  He loved tea, I loved tea, it was the start of a great conversation that lasted the remainder of the flight. Oh, and I remembered who he was.  Tim Russ.

Who’s Tim Russ you ask?  Well, how about I say Lieutenant Commander Tovuk of the USS Voyager (promoted to this rank at the start of season 4).  Russ starred as cast member in the popular SciFi series Voyager, a Star Trek series which ran for 7 season, from 1995 to 2001.

Our conversation after tea centered around music.  I did not know that Russ had a music career as well as a television career.  I asked him if he played regularly, and he said that he can be seen playing in different clubs in L.A., and regularly at the Kibitz Room in L.A.  He also said that he has a children’s book and CD, “Bugsters” published through Woods N’ Water Press which can be purchased through Amazon.com.

In a recent email, he also said, “I am doing voice over work on a show called ‘Sym-bionic Titans’ on Cartoon Network, doing the voice of “Solomon.”

What was clear to me in our conversation and subsequent emails, is his love for music.  He’ll be in Vegas this month (August), and Australia later in the month performing in Sydney and Melbourne.
